“If you stand for nothing you’ll fall for everything.” – Alexander Hamilton

When googled “Core Values” is defined as the fundamental beliefs of a person or organization. These guiding principles dictate behavior and can help people understand the difference between right and wrong. Core values also help companies to determine if they are on the right path and fulfilling their goals by creating an unwavering guide.

I could complete the article here, knowing that most of our world knows what Core Values are. But do we have a full understanding on core values? Let’s dive deeper into Core Values.

Most people begin learning and practicing values in the home. Starting at a young age we are taught, not to point, to say please and thank you and to always be kind, even when others are not. These are normally taught to us by our parents, who instill these values for us to be decent, civil and participating humans in the world.

Next, we attend school, where we are taught a whole new set of values, we are taught structure through learning to raise our hands, and put on a schedule, accountability through being on time and completing assignments and shown our development through grades and learning. Throughout our schooling years we are taught the fundamentals to begin our next steps, in the workforce.

Lastly, the workforce. We use our earlier core values from previous years but in the workforce, you may receive a whole bunch of new core values. Most seem like common sense but others are core to the business and their success with their employees. Creating employee retention and give guidelines on how the owners and executives want their company ran.
